Distribution of PPE at Affordable Cost to General Public & Frontline Workers for Protection Against COVID-19 (SLP Boston, 2014)

Due to the severe lack of essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in hospitals and the recent recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advising the general public to wear cloths masks in public, a group of our MIT Sloan Executive MBA classmates pooled our expertise and resources in order to help. SLP Fellow, Ahmed Mady being one of them to help start Masks2Heroes.com

Besides being a physician, Ahmed is currently running his family business in textile manufacturing in Egypt. He worked with his EMBA colleagues to design a stylish face mask that is manufactured from cotton blend/100% cotton fabric with an embedded filter. The mask will be comfortable, washable and reusable for many times. These masks will achieve more than 70% protection efficacy based on published data from University of Cambridge. They dedicated 2 production lines to produce over 50,000 masks per week and have been producing thousands of masks.

They also launched an Indiegogo campaign last week with a goal to raise $100,000 to distribute face masks at cost to the general public and our frontline workers for protection against COVID-19. So farmore than $36,000 has been raised from the general public in less than a week. The campaign is still running.
