Kenneth Tan arrived in Shanghai on a backpack and a one-way ticket in 2003 and today serves as Managing Editor of the award-winning Shanghaiist.com, one of the most widely-read English-language China news sites on the internet today. A graduate of the prestigious National University of Singapore Business School, Kenneth is also a brand communications, media relations and social media specialist. Named by CNN as one of "20 people to watch" in Shanghai in 2009, Kenneth is well sought after for his views on issues related to the Chinese Internet, culture, politics, youth and changing social landscape. He is a 2014 Fellow in the Startup Leadership Program in Shanghai.
He is also known for his work as editor-in-chief of the award-winning Shanghaiist.com, one of the most widely-read English-language China blogs that is part of the highly successful Gothamist network of city blogs. Kenneth has been instrumental in developing Shanghaiist over the years to become the number one independent China news website, clocking in 1 million unique visitors and 3 million pageviews each month as of mid 2014.
